Gautam Gambhir Supports Ashwin Over Scuffle With Eoin Morgan Amid Much Online Debate

Ravichandran Ashwin has once again created a storm in the cricketing world, last time he was in the center of a controversy when he mankaded Rajasthan Royals batsman Jos Buttler in an IPL 2019 match; Ashwin used to play for Punjab Kings (earlier Kings XI Punjab) at that time.

Now R Ashwin plays for Delhi Capitals and recently in a match against Kolkata Knight Riders when Ashwin and skipper Rishabh Pant were on the crease, the former tried to steal a run after the ball ricocheted of Pant. This did not go well with the KKR skipper Eoin Morgan and later on Ashwin and Morgan had a verbal scuffle regarding this. While some former cricketers and netizens called Ashwin’s act against the spirit of the game, there were several others who came out in support of the Indian spinner.

The whole incident was narrated by the KKR wicket-keeper and former skipper Dinesh Karthik who played an important role in calming down both the cricketers when they were arguing on the field.

Eoin Morgan who is also the skipper of the England cricket team may have slammed Ashwin and called him a disgrace but former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag was quick to remind him that during the finals of the World Cup 2019 which was played between England and New Zealand, ball ricocheted off Ben Stokes’ bat and the England team got four important runs but at that time, Morgan had no problem with it.

On the other hand, the former Australian cricketer Shane Warne called the event disgraceful and said that it should never happen. Shane Warne also stated that the world should not be divided on this matter and Eoin Morgan has all the right to nail the DC spinner.

Shane Warne tweeted, “The world shouldn’t be divided on this topic and Ashwin. It’s pretty simple – it’s disgraceful & should never happen. Why does Ashwin have to be that guy again? I think @Eoin16 had every right to nail him!!!!”

The former South African cricketer Dale Steyn has also given his opinion on this matter. He stated what R Ashwin did was within the rules of the game, adding that the Indian spinner is one such cricketer who squeezes each rule to his benefit and that is how he likes to play. Dale Steyn further states that every player plays game the way he wants to but he personally wouldn’t have taken a run if the ball has hit the other batsman and he is pretty proud of the manner in which he has played. Dale Steyn further says that though he differs from Ashwin in this matter, he can’t hold it against the Indian cricketer.

On the other hand, the former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has also supported Ashwin in this matter. While speaking in a show on a sports channel, the cricketer turned politician states that he completely supports Ashwin in this matter as he has done nothing wrong, what he has done is as per the rules of the game. Gambhir further adds that majority of people who are speaking on this matter have nothing to do with it but they are just talking about it for increasing their followers on social media networks.

The owner of DC, Parth Jindal also came out in support of his player Ravichandran Ashwin as he also reminded Morgan of the WC2019 final and called his act hypocrisy. Parth Jindal tweeted, “So when the ball ricochets off Ben Stokes for 4 additional runs which single handedly allows England to win the 50 over World Cup there are no issues? But when Ash takes an extra run the world goes crazy? #Hypocrisy at its best – fully behind you @ashwinravi99”.

Recently, Ashwin also responded on this matter in a series of tweets and he made it clear that he didn’t know the ball had hit Rishabh Pant but he also stated that he would have still taken the run if he saw it because it was correct as per the laws. He also said that he didn’t fight, he just stood up for himself as this is what he has been taught by his parents and teachers. To conclude, he also asked his followers to make their kids learn to stand up for themselves.
