The former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir is getting applauded by the fans of Kolkata Knight Riders because his mentorship has certainly helped the franchise in winning their third title.
What makes this title more important and special is the fact that KKR has won it after a long gap of 10 years. Interestingly, KKR won their two trophies (2012 and 2014) under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir and this time, he made a comeback as the mentor and helped KKR lift the trophy.
However, there are many reports which suggest that Gautam Gambhir will leave KKR soon as he is going to replace Rahul Dravid as the next head coach of the Indian cricket team. While Gautam Gambhir has remained mum on this matter, recently he said something which has given a new twist to this matter.
During an interview, Gautam Gambhir says that he is happy and content after winning the third trophy but KKR is still two trophies behind Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. The former Indian cricketer added that the hunger is still there as they still work to become the most successful franchise and for becoming that, they will need to win the IPL three times more. Gambhir said that the team will need to work really hard to win it thrice and their next mission is to make KKR the best ever team and there can’t be a better feeling than that.
While Gautam Gambhir has expressed his desire to make KKR the best team, if he chooses to become the head coach of the Indian team, his contract will be of three years and till 2027 he won’t be able to get associated with KKR.
The last day for applying for the post of the head coach was 27 May and there are reports which suggest that the BCCI is pretty determined to have Gautam Gambhir on board and a high-profile owner of a franchise has told a portal that Gautam Gambhir’s appointment as the head coach is a done deal and it is just a matter of time that the announcement will be made.
Will Gautam Gambhir take up the job of India’s head coach? What do you think?
