Harmanpreet Kaur delivered a sensational batting performance to rewrite the record books for India in women’s T20I cricket. The former Indian captain smashed an unbeaten 91 off just 41 balls against Zimbabwe on Tuesday (October 20), helping India post a massive total of 216/7 in the third T20I at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur.

After India captain Smriti Mandhana elected to bat first, Harmanpreet Kaur came in at No. 4 and took the Zimbabwe bowlers to task. Her explosive innings included 10 fours and five sixes, making her the highest-scoring Indian batter in a women’s T20I match played on the Indian soil.
Before Harmanpreet Kaur’s remarkable knock, Smriti Mandhana held the record with her 80-run innings against Sri Lanka in Thiruvananthapuram on December 28, 2025. However, the overall record for the highest individual score in a women’s T20I match in India still belongs to England’s Danni Wyatt-Hodge, who smashed 124 off 64 balls against India at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium on March 25, 2018.

Harmanpreet Kaur reached her half-century in just 25 balls and continued her attacking approach throughout the innings. She also built a crucial 84-run partnership for the third wicket with Shafali Verma, who contributed an impressive 69 off 37 deliveries.
Shafali had earlier registered a half-century of her own but narrowly missed a major milestone in women’s T20I cricket. She needed at least 78 runs in the third T20I to become the first player to score 1,000 runs in women’s T20Is in a calendar year in 2026. However, her innings ended at 69, leaving her just nine runs short of the required target.

Interestingly, despite three Indian players having collectively recorded four centuries in women’s T20I cricket, none of those hundreds has come on the Indian soil. Harmanpreet Kaur scored a women’s T20I century in the West Indies in 2018, while Shafali Verma registered a hundred against Bangladesh in Japan during the 2026 Asian Games. Smriti Mandhana has also scored two women’s T20I centuries, one each in England and the United Arab Emirates.
Harmanpreet Kaur’s breathtaking 91-run innings not only helped India cross the 200-run mark but also gave her a place in the record books. With Shafali contributing another powerful knock, India’s batting display provided plenty of talking points in the third T20I against Zimbabwe.
