‘Dishoom’, the Varun Dhawan and John Abraham starrer that was released on the 29th of July received a great response from the audience. However, the stupendous collections were mainly due to Akshay Kumar’s cameo.
Yes, he essayed the character of a gay and wooed everyone. This is the first time that Akshay has played a gay. Basically, everyone is used to seeing him in the macho man image, but this was something new for all.
This character of his drove fans real crazy. However, won’t you like to know what is the Khiladi’s reaction on this? Well, Akshay was extremely happy to do this role in ‘Dishoom’.
Reports have stated that Akshay Kumar is pretty happy and satisfied with this decision of playing a gay and when asked how tough was it for him, he says “
No. At the point, I didn’t! Now that my Bumfie (aka belfie) is well and truly out there. I’ve been hearing that I really might be a first among my generation to do such a role, and you know what, being proud of one’s decisions is what makes your choices infectious… Gay, straight, fat or thin, we are what we are, and I was proud to play a gay character finally in my career. But the incredible response I’ve received from so many people is what makes this so amazing. All I can say is — thanks for the unconditional love.”
Moreover, he also said that he was not at all worried about his image being spoilt after playing a gay. Akshay hoped that his fans all across the globe would accept his character. He wished to change the existing stereotypes. Akshay says,
“As for my image, I’m fully aware I’ve been a gay icon in India for many years now. If I can be loved by the gay fraternity why shouldn’t I portray one in good faith for all their love and support over the years? I can only hope the gay community is as happy as I am to have done this. This really could have gone either way, but I’m so glad it’s been accepted by everyone, the world is finally changing for the better!”
