Imagine you sleeping in 2 different countries at once? You might be thinking what kind of stupid imagination is this, isn’t it? Well, this is actually possible; want to know how? The answer to this is Hotel Arbez, which is located exactly in La Cure village, on the French-Swiss border.
Once you book a room in this hotel, you get the pleasure of sleeping in 2 countries i.e. France and Switzerland at once. Yes, if you visit the website of the hotel you would see the tagline “Two nations sleep in the same bed and eat at the same table,”
The French-Swiss border runs through Arbez and the exciting part is that in some parts, it even divides the bed. This means, your head would be in France and feet in Switzerland and vice versa. Isn’t it exciting?
Now if you want to add a unique twist to your honeymoon, do book a honeymoon suite here, as its’ bed is split into 2 countries. Tell everyone how you had fun with your love in 2 different countries and leave them confused.
There is also a guest room in this hotel which falls under the Switzerland part but has its’ bathroom in France. It might sound strange to you but Hotel Arbez actually exists.
If you want to experience 2 different traditions or cultures simultaneously, this hotel is just perfect. This is seen in terms of cuisines too; the restaurant in the hotel is also divided into 2 and serves Swiss as well as French cuisine.
Well, are you wondering what is the history behind this ? Hotel Arbez can be traced back to 1860s when Switzerland and France entered into an agreement for redrawing the border. Now in this deal, French got some part of land near Dappes Valley and Swiss got some part of land near La Cure. However, before the finalization of the deal, M. Ponthus a La Cure local thought of building a store there and enjoying cross-border trade. So after the border was redrawn, the store was divided i.e. half into France and half into Switzerland. In the year 1921, it became a hotel! Yes, it was purchased by Jules-Jean Arbeze and was named after him.
You can surely enjoy both the countries under 1 roof and move here and there without any passport, isn’t it interesting?
