Actor Zayed Khan recently shared his views on the challenges of marriage in Mumbai in light of his sister Sussanne Khan’s divorce from Hrithik Roshan. The couple who ended their 14-year marriage in 2014 remain close friends and continue to co-parent their sons – Hrehaan and Hridhaan Roshan.
In a recent interview, Zayed attributed the difficulties in many marriages to the nature of life in Mumbai, which he described as a city full of distractions. He emphasized that these distractions can make it tough for relationships to withstand the pressures of the fast-paced urban environment.
When he was asked about the effect of trolls on them after Hrithik and Sussanne divorced, Zayed said, “You have to have a thick skin. How your family galvanises together to give you emotional support, these things matter. Our family is like a rock. Anything happens to one of us, it happens to all of us. I have nothing to say beyond, these are things that one has to look at maturely. It could happen to anybody.”
The actor who played Shah Rukh’s younger step-brother in “Main Hoon Na” talked about Mumbai as he said, “Also, look at our city, we live in a city where there are so many distractions. We don’t live in Dalhousie. It’s a tough city to survive for a lot of marriages, let alone my own family. Needless to say, we are an unmovable force.”
Despite their divorce, Zayed pointed out that Sussanne and Hrithik maintain a strong bond and consider each other family. They are cordial not only with each other but also with their respective new partners, showing mutual respect in their post-marriage relationship.
Zayed Khan said, “We are a very modern family. There’s a saying, blood is thicker than water. If two people don’t want to be with each other, but they have many other things in common, one must understand and support them. There is something which lies ahead of that; family, children, everybody… Responsibilities are above and beyond all of that. We are a very open-minded family, as long as there is respect for each other. We inculcate that not only into ourselves, but also our children.”
Zayed further added, “Irrespective of whatever happens, we never badmouth any side. We make them realise that certain things are the way they are, and they’re going to be like this. We can all be happy together, or we can be sad together. What would you choose? I’m very close to my brother Hrithik as well. He’s a gem of a guy, with a heart of gold. Both their partners… Saba is a wonderful lady, Arsalan is also a very good boy… What the hell, life goes on.”
