The deepfake videos have certainly become one of the biggest concerns of the security agencies as they can easily spoil a person’s life by portraying the person in a wrong manner.
Of-late, we have seen deepfake videos of Rashmika Mandanna, Kajol, Kareena Kapoor Khan and some other movie celebs and if you remember, some time back, a deepfake video of legendary former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar also surfaced online in which he was seen promoting a game app.
In the video, Sachin Tendulkar claimed that his daughter also earned money by playing on this app and the voice was edited in such a manner that it was difficult to find out that video was fake until and unless someone watched it carefully.
Sachin Tendulkar took to X at that time and posted the video with the caption, “These videos are fake. It is disturbing to see rampant misuse of technology. Request everyone to report videos, ads & apps like these in large numbers. Social Media platforms need to be alert and responsive to complaints. Swift action from their end is crucial to stopping the spread of misinformation and deepfakes.”

Sachin Tendulkar also tagged the concerned authorities in his tweet and requested them to take an appropriate action against responsible after which Mumbai Police filed an FIR and started the investigation.
A police officer revealed that after carrying out the technical investigation, they found that the video featuring Sachin Tendulkar was uploaded from the Philippines. The officer adds that they are also checking whether VPN has been used in order to hide the exact location from where the video was uploaded.
The police is also verifying the email which is attached to the video, the police officer further says that they have sent the email address to Hotmail in order to get the information regarding who was using it but the process takes time because of which they are waiting for the response.
Hopefully the culprits will be nabbed soon.
