Is Allahabad University’s Richa Singh The Next Target Of ABVP After Rohith Vemula & Kanhaiya

BJP’s youth wing ABVP was already in question after the suicide of Rohith Vemula and JNU case and now Richa Singh, the first woman president of Allahabad University has allegedly accused ABVP of harassing her. Last year, Richa organized a huge campaign for protesting the entry of BJP MP Adityanath into the Allahabad University campus.

She is accusing the administration too and saying that she is on their hit list since she has pointed out the people who harassed her. Richa says that since she has started talking about some issues, the University’ OSD is raising questions on the authentication of her admission.

According to Richa, “They are creating a background to ensure that my admission is cancelled.”

The enquiry was done on the matter of Richa getting admission on the seat which was actually meant for reserved category; however, later it was concluded that it was University’s mistake.

In the words of Richa, “Now I can identify with Rohith Vemula and his institutional murder. But, I am not going to succumb to pressure… ABVP is trying to turn AU into another JNU because those in power are not able to tolerate a woman as student union president and that too who speaks against them. But, if authorities dare take any adverse action against me, they will have to face strong reaction from the students community across the country as all this is politically motivated.”

She further added, “Those who lost the elections are now linking me with naxals, screening my day to-day activities and misrepresenting facts in front of the V-C and unfortunately he is entertaining it. They are not able to digest the fact that a woman has defeated them.”

Last month VC Professor R L Hangloo gave the order of enquiry against Richa after her rival took up the issue of her admission. In the month of January, the University also denied her permission to invite the former editor of Hindu Siddharth Varadarajan as the chief guest after the ABVP members raised objections.
