The television serial Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is once again making headlines for all the wrong reasons. In fact, it won’t be wrong to say that in the last couple of years, the show has remained in limelight mostly for the negative reasons.
If you remember, some time back, actress Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal who used to play the character of Mrs. Roshan Sodhi in TMKOC accused producer Asit Kumarr Modi of s*xual harassment and she also filed a police complaint in this regard.
The latest update in this case is that Jennifer has won the case against Asit Kumarr Modi and the court has instructed the producer to pay the outstanding dues of Jennifer Mistry which is around Rs. 30 lakhs as per Jennifer, along with a compensation of Rs. 5 lakhs. Jennifer told an entertainment portal that though the verdict was given on 15 Feb 2024, she was asked not to share it.
Undoubtedly, Jennifer is happy with the verdict because it proves that she was true and was not fabricating a case but she is disappointed as well because two other accused Sohail Ramani and Jatin Bajaj haven’t got any punishment in this case. She also said that her pending dues haven’t been paid yet.
After winning the case, Jennifer made a long post on her Instagram account in which she made it clear that she will fight further as Sohail Ramani and Jatin Bajaj were not even asked to apologise to her and Rs. 5 lakh is a petty amount as compensation. She added that Rs. 5 lakh is nothing for a person like Asit Kumarr Modi and this will give a feeling to the person that he can get away by doing wrong things by just paying a petty amount.
Here is what Jennifer Mistry wrote, “I declare VICTORY in my s*xual harassment case…Asit Modi has been proven guilty in the case…Thank you God
I made it happen with the help of my lawyer @ammitt_khare , support of my hubby @bobbybansiwal & my close friends & family & my fans who truly believed that I wasn’t playing woman card or doing cheap publicity or fabricating things…
I was just standing firm on faith ALL ALONE & speaking d truth, But it’s not over yet.
Just letting Asit Modi pay my amount due (which he hasn’t yet paid even after 40 days of passing the verdict in Feb), (he has withheld my payment for past 1 year) and a compensation of 5 lacs is NOTHING…
I have gone through extreme mental trauma, loss of employment & friends, loss of prestige, medical bills, expenses for the case, etc, all this leaving my 10 year old daughter at home…
And what about giving verdict for Sohil Ramani & Jatin Bajaj? No punishment at all to all 3 of them, so I am not satisfied completely…
Still thankful to the Government of Maharashtra for at least looking into the case unlike the police authorities, but I won’t sit quiet.
They proved Asit Modi guilty of s*xual harassment, which I knew from the beginning, what is new in it??? What about the trauma I went through in last 1 year, on the contrary the culprits are roaming freely posing as innocent. The verdict does not even ask Mr Modi, Sohil & Jatin to even apologize to me, as I was clearly abused while working in TMKOC & d compensation asked to pay is menial, this I say because, 5 lakhs is a petty amount for Mr Modi, by such amount, I think people like Mr Modi will get inspired to commit such crimes, as they can get away with bigger crimes by just paying off petty amounts. I am not accepting the verdict and decide to go further by just not taking my money.
Also a woman’s self respect cannot be quantified in the manner the verdict & compensation was declared. This Victory of mine might encourage females to come forward if they are being treated in the wrong way but this is the bigger fight for justice. But I wonder if the fighting for justice is so difficult for a known person like me, then what would be happening to the laywoman.
