There seems to be a flood of biopics in Bollywood after immense success of “Mary Kom”, “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag” and “Neerja”. Many are on the way including “Sarabjit” and especially from the cricket world, “Azhar”, “Sachin” and “M.S.Dhoni – The Untold Story”. The reason for making biopics is that they obviously grab attention and interest of people for being based on real life story and incidents.
As of today, “Azhar” starring Emraan Hashmi in lead role is making headlines since the movie is receiving good views and appreciation from viewers. The film depicts Mohd. Azharuddin’s professional life, cricket career, love, scandal of match fixing and eventual downfall.
But what’s more interesting is that even Azharuddin can be seen with the team during the promotion of “Azhar”.
There is no denying the fact that people do charge a whooping sum to allow makers for making movies on their lives and the same was expected in case of Azharuddin; however, every single person was taken aback when Tony D’souza, director of the movie, disclosed how much Azhar charged for his biopic…..
In his words, “He has not taken a single penny. We are very happy that he helped us a lot all along, right from the scripting process to shooting to promotions.” Tony added that the cricketer was always present during the making of the film and he not only guided but also corrected with actual stories.
