Virat Kohli, the skipper of the Indian cricket team is one of the most popular cricketers of all times and his fan following is not limited to just India but across the globe as well. How popular he is can be understood by the fact that he is the most searched cricketer of the world with 1.76 million times each month in the last four years, from Dec 2015-Dec 2019.
This data has been released by the SEMrush study which gave a detailed report about the number of times the cricketers and the cricket teams were searched in the last 4 years.
While Kohli has been leading the team from the front and has been in a great form, what makes the results more interesting is the fact that MS Dhoni who is not part of the Indian squad since the World Cup 2019 is on the second spot with 9.59 lakh searches every month. A lot of speculation is going on regarding the retirement of MS Dhoni and recently, his fans slammed BCCI for not including him in the annual contract list.
In the top ten most searched cricketers, seven are from India including Indian vice-captain Rohit Sharma (7.33 lakh), all-rounder Hardik Pandya (3.68 lakh) former Indian cricketers Sachin Tendulkar (4.51 lakh) and Yuvraj Singh (3.48 lakh).
The other three cricketers who are in the top 10 list are Australian cricketer Steve Smith, former South African cricketer Ab de Villiers and former West Indian cricketer Chris Gayle.
However, when it comes to the most searched cricket team, it is not India but the team of England with 3.51 lakh searches every month.
