Man Who Grew Breasts Awarded Rs 15 Crore

A 20 year old boy in USA grew breast as a result of taking medicine whose side effects were not disclosed to him. Austin Pledger diagnosed with Autism, was prescribed Risperdal 8 years back, and was not warned about the side effects that he might grow Breasts.

He has been reimbursed with $ 2.5 million (Rs 15 Crore) as a penalty charge, for not being “adequately informed”. Janssen, the manufacturer of the drug Risperdal, however maintained that they are disappointed and believes that the verdict should be overturned on the pretext that the side effects of the medicine were clearly communicated to the Pledger and his family as well as his general physician.

However, the report suggests that Risperdal was not approved by the Food and Drug Administration in the United States for use in children. It can be a case of miscommunication since the label of the medicine clearly mentions that men may face gynecomastia, a condition in which they develop breasts, though the chances are very rare. The antipsychotic drug contained high levels of prolactin, a hormone that promotes breast growth.

Unfortunately, he had already begun to develop his breasts which is 46-DD, which can now be only removed by double mastectomy.
