McDonald’s Guard Asked Muslim Woman To Remove Hijab Before Entering. McD Finally Had To Apologise

McDonald’s is pretty famous all over the world for its burger and French fries but this time, it is in the news for its discriminatory behaviour towards a 19-yr female student who was wearing a hijab.

The incident happened at McDonald’s outlet which is situated at Seven Sister’s Road in Holloway, London, where the guard asked the girl to remove her hijab or else leave the premises.

The girl has been upset to such an extent after this incident that she has pledged not to visit the fast food restaurant ever again in her life.

The young Muslim girl visited the restaurant with her friends and as the guard was continuously indicating her to remove hijab, she took the decision to shoot the video of the incident. When the girl asked the guard why she can’t stand in line and wait for her turn to take food at the outlet, the guard can be heard saying,

“It’s just a matter of taking it [hijab] off.”

The girl replied,

“It’s not just a matter of taking it off. I wear this for religious reasons and I’m not ashamed of it, and I will stand in line and I will get the food I want because this isn’t OK.”

In a couple of tweets, a user wrote,

“My friend was refused service at a McDonalds today in London because she was wearing a Hijab. When she started recording the incident, she was told to stop but thankfully didn’t. Thank you to the kind man who defended her against the security guard and employees at the store…

We will be contacting the relevant authorities to ensure this is dealt with. It is disgusting that hate crimes and discrimination are so prevalent in this country, especially in such a diverse city like London. We cannot be silent bystanders to this hate.”

She got the support of one of the customers who was also standing in line and that person tried to stop the guard but the guard rudely tells him to mind his own business. As she was highly aggravated, she demanded to know who gave this order to implement discrimination. Another employee also intervened in the matter and asked the girl to stop shooting.

On realising that they are into big trouble, the employee tried to calm down the girl but she was in no mood to get pacified. The girl wanted to remain anonymous so the video was posted on Twitter by her friend.

As per the report published in Guardian, the girl quoted,

“I thought: ‘It’s finally happening to me,’ like it has to so many hijabis. It didn’t feel real because I had seen so many videos like this and it was finally happening to me in real life. I was in so much disbelief.”

The social media is flooded with tweets and messages slamming McDonald’s for this incident of hate crime.

Shocking:

It shouldn’t be anyone’s business:

McD needs to do it right:

Appreciate your action:

McDonald’s took to the micro-blogging site Twitter to apologise for the unpleasant incident.

This is what they tweeted, “We don’t have a policy which restricts/ prevents anyone wearing hijab or any other religious dress from coming to restaurants. We welcome customers of all faiths & apologise to the customer as this situation shouldn’t have taken place.”

Proper action should be taken in this regard. What do you say?
