Kuwait Police has arrested an outsider for begging however he has 500,000 Kuwaiti Dinar which comes to Rs. 10 Crores, in his bank account. He has been sent to custody after being arrested outside a mosque.

This was quoted by Khaleej Time, sources told Kuwaiti daily, Al Rai “Servicemen were patrolling the area when they saw a man standing near a mosque and begging for money, telling worshipers that he badly needed cash and that he had no home.”

Further told by sources, “He was immediately arrested as he was breaking the law and was taken to Al Ahmadi police station where an investigation found that he had a bank account in a local bank worth more than 500,000 Kuwaiti Dinar (over Rs 10 crore).”

All the members of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) – Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have banned begging completely and does not tolerate begging for money at all, especially in the holy month of Ramadan when the followers of Islam, whether they are from Gulf or other countries are more prone to donate for charity.

22 beggars were extradited from Kuwait in April, as they were charged for troubling public.

Media reports suggest that begging has become a profitable profession for outsiders in the Gulf.

85 percent of the beggars are foreign nationals while remaining are residents of Saudi Arabia, as told by the spokesperson of Social Affairs Minsitry.

In 2012, an emigrant was arrested by the Kuwait Police as he was dressed up as a lady and was begging for money.
