Mohammed Shami is not ready to give up on his India career just yet. Despite being overlooked by the selectors repeatedly, the experienced fast bowler remains confident in his abilities and believes he is still performing at the peak of his career.

Mohammed Shami has been out of the Indian team for some time, with his last appearance for the country coming in March 2025. Meanwhile, 36 years old Bhuvneshwar Kumar has returned to the Indian side after a gap of almost four years. With questions being raised about India’s bowling in the shorter formats, demands for Shami’s comeback have also increased.
Speaking to the media, Mohammed Shami said that every person needs to have a goal, whether in sports or any other profession. He explained that he continues to hope for another opportunity to represent India while remaining focused on his current responsibilities in domestic cricket. He also highlighted the importance of winning the Ranji Trophy, showing that his immediate focus remains on helping his team succeed.

The fast bowler made it clear that he has not lost confidence in his abilities. Mohammed Shami insisted that he still considers himself to be at the peak of his career and believes there is no reason to hide how he feels about his current form. Shami also praised Bhuvneshwar Kumar, acknowledging his performances and suggesting that his form deserved an India recall even earlier.
The Bengal pacer further spoke about his strong connection with his domestic team, crediting it for playing a major role in shaping his career. He said he would continue to give his best for Bengal and expressed his desire to finish his playing career with the same team that helped him establish himself in cricket.
Mohammed Shami was also asked about being left out of India’s all-format tour of New Zealand. However, he said he was not disappointed by the decision and preferred to concentrate on the things he could control.

He pointed out that he had played the entire domestic season last year and featured in every match. His approach, he explained, remains unchanged: to keep playing as much cricket as possible and continue performing whenever he gets an opportunity.
Despite the repeated setbacks at the selection level, Mohammed Shami’s message is clear: he still wants to play for India, believes he has plenty left to offer and is determined to keep working towards a national comeback.
We wish Mohammed Shami all the best for his future!
