MS Dhoni, the legendary Indian cricketer has once again shown his prowess as a skipper as he took his IPL team into the finals of the tournament for the 10th time and everybody is going gaga over his captaincy in the first qualifier of the league. In the first qualifier which was played on 23 May 2023 at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, MS Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings defeated Hardik Pandya led Gujarat Titans by 15 runs and became the first finalist of the IPL 2023.
Many on-field decisions of MS Dhoni were bang on target for which he was praised by not just cricket fans but former cricketers as well but there was one incident which annoyed many including the former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar.
As per a rule in the IPL, any player who was out of the ground for more than 8 minutes has to be on the ground for the same amount of time otherwise he is not eligible to bowl.
CSK bowler Matheesha Pathirana went out of the ground after bowling his first and overall 12th over of the GT innings for the purpose of getting treated for a niggle and he returned to bowl his second and overall 16th over but on-field umpire Anil Chaudhary stopped Pathirana from bowling. Dhoni checked from the other umpire Chris Gaffaney as to what Anil Chaudhary was discussing with Matheesha Pathirana, the match officials told MSD that Pathirana needed to wait for some time before he would be allowed to bowl.
Mahi who is a clever skipper kept on discussing with the umpires and wasted four minutes tactfully after which Matheesha Pathirana was allowed to bowl the 16th over.
As per the reports, Dhoni who has already been fined for slow rate may face one-match ban over this incident and if this happens, he won’t be able to play the final match of the tournament.
Will MS Dhoni face one match ban or will he lead his team in the finals? What do you think? Let us know your opinion in this connection.
