The tension between the two neighbours of the Indian sub-continent, i.e., India and Pakistan got more intense as Indian Air Force carried out a surgical air-strike in the Balakot region, taking lives of several anti-social elements that belonged to a group known as Jaish-e-Mohammad. The air-strike was in response to the horrific Pulwama incident in which more than 40 CRPF soldiers lost their lives and Jaish-e-Mohammad took the complete responsibility of this incident.
In retaliation, Pakistani Air Force also violated the Indian air space. Amidst all this, a MiG-21 got crashed and Indian pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman landed in the Pakistan territory.
He was arrested by the Pak police but the Pak government led by Prime Minister Imran Khan didn’t take much time in announcing the release of the Indian pilot as a goodwill gesture.
While some Pakistanis got upset with this announcement, some liked this decision of Imran Khan so much that they started demanding the Nobel Peace Prize for him. While the social media users from Pakistan began to trend #NobelPeacePrizeForImranKhan, an online petition was also submitted to Norwegian Nobel Committee.
Recently, a motion was also passed in the Pakistan National Assembly Secretariat, calling him worthy of this prestigious award. The motion was moved by Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry as he felt that Imran Khan has been contributing a lot for establishing peace in the region and he should be awarded with Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts.
However, Imran Khan has a totally different opinion on this matter. He took to the micro-blogging site Twitter and wrote that he is not worthy of this award but the person who will solve the Kashmir dispute and that too as per the wishes of the Kashmiri people will deserve it.

“I am not worthy of the Nobel Peace prize. The person worthy of this would be the one who solves the Kashmir dispute according to the wishes of the Kashmiri people and paves the way for peace & human development in the subcontinent.”

The Indians are not able to understand as to why the release of Abhinandan is being converted into such a big issue because as per Geneve convention, a prisoner of war has to be released within the seven days of the arrest.
