Rahul Dravid’s tenure got over after the ODI World Cup 2023 but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) convinced him to continue till the end of the T20 World Cup 2024. Rahul Dravid took over from Ravi Shastri in the year 2021 and many felt that he will be successful in ending the ICC trophy drought as junior teams have won the World Cups under his coaching; nevertheless, even though team India came close to winning the ICC trophy two times, it missed both the chances.

Under Rahul Dravid’s guidance, the Indian cricket team reached the finals of the World Test Championship and the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 but wasn’t able to win the finals. However, India did win the Asia Cup and also the bilateral series including the series against Australia and England. The former Indian cricketer Parthiv Patel who was also Dravid’s teammate during their playing days talked about Dravid’s tenure and during the discussion, he said that a coach certainly wants to win trophies but there is one more thing which is very important and that is the culture that the coach imbibes in the team and what kind of cricket the team plays. Patel said that the biggest example is that the Indian team played attacking cricket in the ODI World Cup 2023. He added that questions were raised on the team’s capability but India did it continuously in every match. Patel further said that though India lost the final as it was not their day, they reached the final under Rahul Dravid’s guidance.

Parthiv Patel also praised Rahul Dravid for nurturing the youngsters as Dhruv Jurel, Mukesh Kumar, Sarfaraz Khan, Akash Deep, Devdutt Padikkal, Yashasvi Jaiswal, etc. got the chance to show their talent. He added that there have been ample positives for which Rahul Dravid’s tenure will be remembered.
