An online petition was filed for banning the show; many people extended support to the petition and hence, government had no option but to take appropriate action. The petition was forwarded to Smriti Irani, the I & B Minister and then, she further forwarded it to the Broadcasting Content Complaints Council so that it could take decision on the same.

Finally, the BCCC has announced its verdict on the same. According to reports, “The Broadcasting Content Complaints Council has directed Sony channel to shift the daily soap Pehredaar Piya Ki to the 10 pm slot and run it with a scroll saying it does not promote child marriage.”

Even PTI gave a confirmation of the same;

Currently, the show airs at 8.30 pm and it’s considered to be the prime time for Indian Television; so, the high number of complaints is obvious. 10 pm is a restrictive hour and so, the BCCC ordered to shift the slot accordingly.

Reports also quote the producer of the show Sumeet Mittal as saying,

“We have not received anything yet. As and when we receive it (instructions from the ministry), we will reply to it. We will explain our point of view.”

The producers had also said that they know they limits and won’t go beyond that. On the other hand, a source close to Sony Channel said,

“The channel has just got the information and once they receive a notice will they decide on what to do next.”

Hope this decision of BCCC would relieve the petitioners a bit. Let’s see what happens.
