The schedule for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 has been announced by the ICC and India has found place in Group A along with Pakistan, Canada, Ireland and USA.
The tournament will be hosted by West Indies and USA and the big question that Indian cricket fans are asking as of now is whether Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be a part of the Indian squad or not. The reason behind this curiosity is that both of them haven’t played any T20 international since the T20 World Cup in which India lost the semi-final match to England. Well, the selectors never made any official announcement but in Rohit Sharma’s absence, Hardik Pandya led the T20 team and many felt that the selectors have made up their minds for selecting a young team for the mega-event.
India has won the T20 World Cup only once, it happened in 2007 under the leadership of MS Dhoni but since then, India hasn’t been able to lift the trophy despite reaching the finals once and semi-finals twice.
As per some reports, both the senior cricketers have informed the selectors that they want to play in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and their fans and some former cricketers also want the same considering the fact that Virat Kohli has been in sublime form of his life and the manner in which Rohit Sharma led the Indian team in the ICC ODI World Cup2023 was just superb and amazing.
The senior Indian cricketer Piyush Chawla has talked on this matter and while speaking on a show, he said that he doesn’t feel Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have any baggage because once a player goes on the ground, he doesn’t even think about what happened in the past. He added that it should be seen in a different manner and they both may be wanting to do something special to make team India win the T20World Cup. Chawla concluded by saying that personally he feels that experience of both the players will matter a lot in crunch situation.
The former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar feels that the selectors should wait and watch until the time of selection comes because at that time, they will need to take some tough calls. In simple words, Sanjay Manjrekar is saying that the IPL will make things easy for the selectors as they will be able to see the form of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli based on their performances in the league.
