This whole exercise has been named as Project Swarn (gold) and it will also focus on improving the sanitation of toilets, cleanliness of coaches and refurbishing the coach interiors. The department is starting the project in October as the festive season starts from this month and occupancy of trains is higher in this period.

The department has also been receiving complaints regarding toilet cleanliness, food quality, quality of bedsheets and blankets, etc. This has compelled the ministry to start the Project Swarn so that the passengers of these premiere trains can get a better travelling experience.

Not only this, the project will also improve and strengthen the security system of the trains and more officers of RPF will be deployed for this purpose.

15 Shatabdi trains which will be upgraded include New Delhi-Chandigarh, New Delhi-Kanpur, Howrah-Ranchi, Anand Vihar-Kathgodam, Howrah-Puri, etc., while Rajdhani trains for Howrah, Patna, Ranchi, Bhubaneshwar and Mumbai are also a part of this exercise.

Punctuality of these trains will be a focus area besides catering and cleanliness. New uniform has been designed for the staff and they will be provided proper training on hygiene and use of trolley. The on-board entertainment facilities include offering films, music and TV serials to the passengers.

We really hope that Project Swarn gets successful in accomplishing all its objectives.
