The New Zealand cricket team started their ICC ODI World Cup 2023 in a pretty good style by defeating England and then they registered some more victories but mid-way, they lost the momentum and lost some matches. However, the good thing was that the Kiwis got back to the winning way and managed to make a place in the semi-finals and it won’t be wrong to say that the Indian-origin New Zealand cricketer Rachin Ravindra played an important role in taking his team to the semi-finals.
Rachin Ravindra is currently the third highest run-getter of the tournament with 565 runs after Indian cricketer Virat Kohli and South African cricketer Quinton de Kock. Rachin Ravindra has scored three centuries and two fifties till now and recently his father dismissed some notions regarding the his son’s name. Many felt that Rachin’s parents were fans of former Indian cricketers – Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid because of which they named their son by blending the names of both these cricketers. If you are not able to understand, then let us tell you that people believed Rachin’s parents took “Ra” from Rahul and “Chin” from Sachin.
Ravi Krishnamurthy, Rachin’s father who moved to New Zealand from Bengaluru many years back, gave an interview in which he stated that they realized many years later that their son’s name is a mixture of names of two Indian cricketers and it wasn’t a deliberate attempt on their part.
Krishnamurthy stated that when their son was born, the name ‘Rachin’ was suggested by his wife and they just kept the name without discussing much because it was easy to spell, short and sounded good as well. He added that they never had any intention of making their son a cricketer and as parents, they had given complete freedom to their kids to pursue the career of their choice. He further said that when Rachin expressed his desire to become a cricketer, they supported him completely just like they would do for their daughter in her chosen field.
Rachin Ravindra has already made his parents proud as now he holds the record for the most World Cup runs and centuries for a player under 25 yrs of age.
The Indian cricket team should take this player seriously, what do you think?
