Remember Jheel Mehta who earlier played the role of little Sonu in the very popular sitcom “Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah”?
Yes, you guessed it right! We are talking about the sweet girl who played the role of Atmaram Bhide and Madhavi Bhide’s daughter. Like her onscreen character, Jheel is studious in the real life too and many might not be knowing that it was just for concentrating on her studies that she left the sitcom.
The girl was merely 9 when she entered TMKOC and time indeed flies so fast as she’s 18 now. Yes, she’s grown up and you’ll be surprised to see that she looks even more beautiful now.

After successfully portraying the role of Sonu for 4 long years, she made up mind to focus on her career. This is what she said in an interview, “Every single moment attached to the show will remain very close to me. Taarak Mehta… has given me a lot in terms of fame and money. But, somewhere down the line, I wanted to do something else apart from acting. I was 14, when I decided to quit the show and study further. I scored 93.33% in my board exams and I was pretty happy with my decision.”
She added, “When I scored 93.33% in my ICSE board exams, people assumed that I will take up science and become a doctor. Honestly, I was interested in choosing medical, but then I took up commerce. I am currently doing BBA from NMMIS University, Mumbai and I wish to do MBA in abroad mostly. I haven’t decided yet on whether I will take finance or marketing. ”
Even after 4 long years, she’s been recognized as Sonu and people ask for her autograph.
Talking about his daughter Jheel, father Nalin Mehta, a businessman by profession, says, “Jheel is a very innocent and intelligent girl. She knows what she wants in her life and that makes us very proud. Whatever she wants to do in her life, we are with her. As a child, she was very innocent. As years passed on, she has become mature. I am very proud to have a daughter like Jheel. We have never treated her as a daughter, she is like a son for us.”
As of her interests, she loves to dance and make friends. Even though acting is her hobby, she never thought to choose it as her career.
The only child of her parents, she has been pampered a lot and gets full support of her parents in all her decisions.
Jheel appeared in Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi Hai before TMKOC.
She is still in touch with her co-actors and frequently meets them on the set.
