Rihanna’s One Instagram Post Resulted In Whopping $1 Billion Loss For Snapchat. Here’s How

Things don’t seem to go well for chat platform Snapchat as some time ago, Kylie Jenner’s negative statement resulted in a loss of 6% in its share value and $1.3 billion of the company’s market value was wiped off.

Now famous singer Rihanna has slammed Snapchat heavily resulting in a loss of almost 5% in its share value and almost $1 billion have been wiped off from the company’s market value.

Rihanna’s reaction was the outcome of the advertisement that appeared on Snapchat for a mobile game known as “Would You Rather?”. The ad offered two options to the users, “Slap Rihanna” or “Punch Chris Brown”.

It was not difficult for Rihanna’s fans to understand the incident that the ad was referring to.

In 2009, when Chris Brown and Rihanna were dating, once Chris choked and beat Rihanna and she was admitted in the hospital. Chris went on to give her death threats and it was definitely a difficult time for Rihanna. She totally understands the pain and agony of domestic violence.

She took to Instagram and posted,

“Now SNAPCHAT I know you already know you ain’t my fav app out there! But I’m just trying to figure out what the point was with this mess! I’d love to call it ignorance, but I know you ain’t that dumb! You spent money to animate something that would intentionally bring shame to DV victims and made a joke of it!!!! This isn’t about my personal feelings, cause I don’t have much of them…but all the women, children, and men that have been victims of DV in the past and especially the ones who haven’t made it out yet….you let us down! Shame on you. Throw the whole app-oligy away.”

Snapchat issued a statement to CNN and termed the ad as “disgusting”. The company said,

“We are investigating how that happened so that we can make sure it never happens again.”

“Would You Rather” has been blocked as an advertiser and the game has been unaffiliated from Snapchat.

Snapchat did respond on the Instagram story of Rihanna and gave a statement to The Verge.

Here’s the statement:

“This advertisement is disgusting and never should have appeared on our service. We are so sorry we made the terrible mistake of allowing it through our review process. We are investigating how that happened so that we can make sure it never happens again.”

The company’s apology has been declined by Rihanna as she has already made it clear that she is more concerned about other victims of domestic violence rather than herself.
