Rohit Sharma Creates History At Lord’s, Breaks Multiple Records With Stunning 100 Vs England

Rohit Sharma produced another memorable performance in his illustrious career by breaking multiple records during India’s third ODI against England at Lord’s on Sunday (July 19).

The experienced opener starred in India’s chase of 388 runs with a superb 138 off 110 balls. Rohit Sharma reached his century in just 84 deliveries and became the first Indian batter to score an ODI hundred at the famous Lord’s Cricket Ground. His attacking innings included 17 fours and five sixes.

Before Rohit’s historic knock, the highest individual score by an Indian batter in an ODI at Lord’s was 90, made by Sourav Ganguly against England on September 5, 2004.

The century was Rohit Sharma’s eighth ODI hundred in England, helping him set another major record. He now holds the record for the most ODI centuries scored by a batter in a single overseas country.

With this achievement, Rohit Sharma moved ahead of Sachin Tendulkar, Saeed Anwar, AB de Villiers and Quinton de Kock. All four had scored seven ODI centuries in a particular away country. Sachin Tendulkar and Saeed Anwar hit their seven centuries in the UAE, while AB de Villiers and Quinton de Kock scored seven ODI hundreds in India.

Rohit Sharma has now registered eight ODI centuries in just 30 matches in England, highlighting his outstanding record in English conditions. Among batters, only England’s Joe Root has scored more ODI centuries on the English soil, with 10 hundreds in 99 ODI appearances.

The century also made Rohit Sharma the oldest Indian cricketer to score an ODI hundred. On July 19, 2026, he was 39 years and 80 days old, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s previous record. Tendulkar was 38 years and 327 days old when he scored 114 runs from 147 balls against Bangladesh in Mirpur on March 16, 2012.

However, the record for the oldest Indian to score a century in international cricket still belongs to Vijay Merchant. The former India batter was 40 years and 21 days old when he scored 154 against England in a Test match in Delhi in November 1951.

Rohit Sharma’s remarkable innings at Lord’s not only guided India’s chase but also added several historic milestones to his already glittering ODI career.
