The senior Indian cricketers, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are back in the team for the 3-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. The series has started from today as the first ODI is currently being played at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Both the senior cricketers have taken retirement from the T20I format but only after winning the prestigious T20 World Cup 2024 which was hosted by USA and West Indies.
As Rohit Sharma took retirement from the T20 format, Suryakumar Yadav was appointed as the skipper of India’s T20 team and India will be looking to win the ODI series after making a clean sweep in the T20I series by 3-0.
The last ODI that Rohit Sharma played was the final of the ODI World Cup 2023 which India lost to the Australian cricket team and ahead of the first ODI, during a press conference, he said jokingly that he still feels as if he is rested from the T20Is and whenever a big tournament like Asia Cup 2025 or T20 World Cup 2026 will come, he will be called back in the team.
Though Rohit Sharma said this in a fun manner, his fans are now talking about Rohit Sharma coming out of T20 retirement.
Rohit Sharma said, “This is what I feel like till now. I felt like I’ve been rested for the T20s, like it used to happen earlier and there will be a big tournament coming up and we have to get ready to T20s again. Still feel it is like that. So I don’t think I’m completely out of the format.”
