Last month, the release of Angry Young Men, a docu-series chronicling the iconic writer duo Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, evoked nostalgia among fans of Indian cinema. The series beautifully captures the personal and professional journey of the pair, whose collaboration in the 1970s revolutionized Bollywood. However, the series also sparked curiosity about the reason behind their split after years of success.
In an interview, Salim Khan, father of superstar Salman Khan, opened up about the separation that left many fans wondering. Salim Khan stated that even today he doesn’t know the reason behind the separation, it was just that Javed Akhtar said that he wants to work alone so he (Salim) said that it’s fine, nobody can stop anyone forcefully.
Salim Khan further said that they didn’t even talk about their separation with anyone else and they didn’t have a fight, he used to pass Javed Akhtar’s house everyday while going for a walk and when he used to wave hand, Akhtar also used to do the same.
As per Salim Khan, if there had been one person who could have prevented the break-up between him and Javed Akhtar, it would have been Amitabh Bachchan. Salim Khan said that if he had been in place of Amitabh Bachchan, he would have talked to Javed Akhtar and would have made him understand that their work is going on great as a pair so why he wants to break up. The legendary actor had worked closely with the duo, starring in many of their most successful films.
The Salim-Javed partnership created some of the most iconic films in Indian cinema, including “Sholay”,
“Deewar” and “Zanjeer”. Their decision to go separate ways marked the end of a golden era for Bollywood screenwriting, leaving a lasting impact on the industry.
We also feel that they shouldn’t have broken up, what do you says?
