Sanjay Leela Bhansali must be wondering what wrong did he do before starting off his new film Padmavati. Even before the shoot of Bhansali’s new blockbuster could get completed, controversies have started tangling the movie. The movie is making headlines everyday because of Bhansali’s row with an unpopular Karni Sena that is ready to go any distance to stop Bhansali from making a movie on their beloved queen, Rani Padmavati.
The Karni Sena have alleged that they read in a newspaper that Bhansali was going to shoot a scene wherein Rani Padmavati (Deepika Padukone) could be seen romancing Allauddin Khilji (Ranveer Singh) in Khilji’s dream. They said that they won’t accept their queen to be romancing Allauddin Khilji even in anyone’s dream. Rani Padmavati, according to them, would not have tolerated herself in Khilji’s dream and thus the scene should not be shot.
In a recent interview, a spokesperson of the Karni Sena said,
“The newspaper Rajasthan Patrika carried a report that there was a dream sequence in the film, which shows Deepika meeting Ranveer Singh. Now Rani Padmini is not an ordinary woman. She is like a Devi (goddess) in Rajasthan. And you cannot show this devi meeting a terrorist like Alauddin Khilji even in his dreams. Rajputs will never tolerate this. If Bhansali distorts history and shoots the film in Mumbai, we will go there and destroy his sets like we did in Jaipur.”
The spokesperson for Karni Sena further justified that they were not the ones who initiated the ruckus and thus are not ready to accept any sort of apology from Bhansali. He added,
“We wrote many letters to Bhansali’s office and expressed our opposition to the film. We wrote that history should not be distorted. We also wrote to the information and broadcasting ministry. On Friday, when we went to meet Bhansali at Jaigarh fort, his guards fired in the air. After the firing there was a scuffle. Bhansali’s bodyguards fired four rounds, following which the situation got out of hand,”

On one hand, The Karni Sena is ready to stop Bhansali even in Mumbai and on the other hand, Bhansali wants to get his movie completed in Rajasthan itself. In a recent interview, Bhansali thanked the local authorities of Jaipur for getting the situation under control. He assured that his team had thoroughly researched history before deciding to make the movie.
Bhansali Said,
“We have been carefully researching and making the film. In spite of this, the attack on the shoot and crew was uncalled for and was extremely damaging to the image of the beautiful city of Jaipur. We are grateful to the authorities at Jaipur who responded promptly and limited the damage on shoot. We are confident that Mewar will be proud of the film made on their revered queen. We do not want to hurt any sentiments and would appreciate if the local people support us in making this film and making their queen revered by the world.”
