The Indian Premier League 2023 is quite special for the fans of MS Dhoni as it may be his last IPL as a player and they will like to see Captain Cool lifting the trophy for the fifth time. However, the Chennai Super Kings didn’t have a good start to their IPL 2023 campaign as the team lost its first match to the defending champions Gujarat Titans by 5 wickets.
Though CSK lost the match, its opener Ruturaj Gaikwad stole the limelight as he played a blistering knock of 92 runs (50 balls, 4 fours & 9 sixes) and helped his team in posting a good total of 178/7 in the stipulated 20 overs.
Recently, the former Indian opener Virender Sehwag talked about Ruturaj Gaikwad in a show and he also made an interesting and quite a surprising prediction regarding CSK’s future captain.
Ruturaj Gaikwad performed superbly in the IPL 2021 as he scored total 635 runs in the 16 matches that he played. His innings included four half-centuries and one century and he helped his team in winning the title. On the basis of this performance, the national selectors gave him a chance in the white ball format but after playing 10 matches (9 T20Is and 1 ODI), he was dropped from the team.
Virender Sehwag states that it is not just about scoring fifties, what makes Ruturaj Gaikwad special is his capability to convert his fifties into hundreds and two seasons back when he scored runs for his IPL team CSK, he also scored a century. He further added that he was really surprised as to why he didn’t get more chances to play for the country because when other players get the chance and they perform, then Ruturaj will have to wait.
Viru Paaji also says that he feels Ruturaj Gaikwad is the ideal candidate for replacing MS Dhoni as the skipper of CSK after Dhoni’s retirement.
