Ahead of the crucial IPL 2026 clash between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, KKR assistant coach Shane Watson made an honest and light-hearted admission about the challenge of facing Virat Kohli.

Shane Watson said KKR are hoping Kohli plays an aggressive shot early in his innings and gives them a chance to dismiss him quickly. However, he also admitted that such a scenario is unlikely because Virat Kohli rarely makes mistakes under pressure.

Virat Kohli has once again been among the top performers in the IPL 2026. The RCB batter has scored 379 runs in 11 matches at a strike rate of 163.36. Although he suffered back-to-back ducks against Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians, his overall form remains strong. In fact, no KKR batter has even crossed 200 runs this season and only Finn Allen has a better strike rate than Virat Kohli among KKR players.

Virat Kohli has also enjoyed batting against KKR in recent meetings. He has scored three half-centuries in the last four matches against the Men in Purple, making him one of the biggest threats in Wednesday’s game.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Shane Watson explained that every team tries to find weaknesses in Virat Kohli’s batting, but stopping him is never easy because of the way he adapts during an innings. He added that KKR can only hope the RCB star repeats the kind of risky shot he attempted in the previous game.

Against Mumbai Indians, Virat Kohli had charged down the pitch against Deepak Chahar, trying to attack early. But the ball swang away, caught the outside half of his bat and resulted in a simple catch at mid-off.

Shane Watson smiled while recalling that dismissal and said KKR would love to see something similar happen again, even though Kohli usually starts carefully and builds his innings smartly.

The former Australian all-rounder also praised Virat’s hunger and dedication, saying his desire to be the best remains as strong as ever. According to Shane Watson, Kohli stays fully engaged in every ball of the game and can quickly build momentum for RCB if bowlers are not sharp from the very beginning.

For KKR, the plan is simple – start well, stay disciplined and hope one rare error from Virat Kohli changes the game.
