What started as a fun moment online quickly turned into a heated discussion. Shreyas Iyer’s sister Shresta Iyer has responded after facing backlash for a video where she appeared to mock Kolkata Knight Riders.
The reaction came after the IPL match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings in Kolkata on Monday was called off due to continuous rain and a wet outfield. The match had to be abandoned, with both the teams sharing a point. This was KKR’s first point of the season.

Before the rain interruption at Eden Gardens, KKR were struggling at 25/2 in just the fourth over. Despite extending the cut-off time to 11:14 pm, the game could not resume.
Amid this, Shresta Iyer posted a video which featured a group of people with a light-hearted comment, “Saade Punjabiyan da dil vadda hunda hai, lo de ditta ek point” (Punjabis have a big heart, here, take a point). While she intended it as a joke, some fans didn’t take it well and criticised her on social media.

Addressing the negativity, Shresta Iyer shared her response on Instagram stories. She said, “Guys, I don’t understand why the hatred is being spread. It is just a game. The videos are just for fun and I am here to support my brother. I will continue to do that.”
She repeated the same message again, emphasising her point and asking people to keep things positive.
The incident shows how quickly social media reactions can escalate, even when the original intention is simply to entertain and support loved ones.
