Friendship took a backseat when Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill faced each other on the field. Despite sharing a good bond as India teammates, Kohli showed a completely different side during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s match against Gujarat Titans on Thursday in front of nearly 90,000 fans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Chasing a target of 156, Shubman Gill, who leads Gujarat Titans, came out all guns blazing. He raced to 43 runs off just 17 balls, putting RCB under early pressure. But his aggressive approach led to his downfall when he tried to hit a delivery from Bhuvneshwar Kumar through the covers, only for Virat Kohli to take a sharp catch.
What followed caught everyone’s attention. A fired-up Virat Kohli threw the ball onto the ground and celebrated passionately, while Shubman Gill walked back disappointed. The moment quickly went viral, with fans divided over Virat Kohli’s aggressive reaction.
Later, Shubman Gill shared pictures on Instagram, including one with Virat Kohli, and wrote, “Play bold @jaseholder98. Bold performance by the team tonight,” celebrating Gujarat Titans’ four-wicket win.

Earlier in the match, Virat Kohli himself looked in great touch. He scored 28 runs off just 12 balls, hitting five fours and a six before being dismissed by Kagiso Rabada. However, RCB couldn’t build momentum as wickets kept falling. Arshad Khan impressed with figures of 3/22, while Rashid Khan and Jason Holder picked up two wickets each. RCB were eventually bowled out for 155 in 19.2 overs, with Devdutt Padikkal top-scoring with 40 off 24 balls.
The match also had a controversial moment. Jason Holder’s catch to dismiss RCB captain Rajat Patidar (19 off 15) was ruled legal by the TV umpire, even though it appeared the ball may have touched the ground. Virat Kohli and RCB coach Andy Flower were seen discussing the decision with the umpires, questioning whether the catch was clean.
