Smriti Mandhana’s recent Women’s Premier League triumph has felt like a full-circle moment for many of her fans. The Indian cricketer, who led Royal Challengers Bangalore to their maiden WPL title, found herself at the centre of emotional messages and online chatter that reflected both her sporting success and her personal struggles.
The victory came months after her wedding to singer-composer Palash Muchhal was suddenly called off, a development that had brought her private life into the public spotlight. While supporters flooded social media with congratulatory notes, a parallel stream of memes also began circulating, some of them taking digs at Palash. The conversation grew even louder when Smriti’s mother Smita Mandhana reshared one of those memes shortly after the final.
The viral post humorously suggested that Smriti’s powerful batting against Delhi Capitals in the final looked like she was channeling her personal frustration into every shot. Smita reportedly shared the meme on her private Instagram account, along with several posts celebrating her daughter’s determination and comeback.

Among them was an emotional tribute that spoke about the silent struggles Smriti Mandhana had faced, describing how she endured difficult weeks, dealt with harsh criticism and chose to stay composed while letting her performance on the field answer her critics. The note praised her leadership, resilience and the way she inspired others by rising above the challenges in her personal life.
Smriti Mandhana and Palash Muchhal had been in a long-term relationship and were reportedly set to marry on November 23. However, the ceremony was called off just a day before the scheduled date. At first, the reason cited was the ill health of Smriti’s father.
Soon after, more serious allegations surfaced. Vidnyan Mane, who claimed to be Smriti Mandhana’s childhood friend, accused Palash Muchhal of infidelity shortly before the wedding. Vidnyan Mane alleged that Palash was caught with another woman in an inappropriate position during the celebrations and the situation escalated so much that Palash was beaten by Indian female cricketers. Despite the claims adding to the controversy, neither Smriti nor Palash has spoken publicly about the accusations in detail.
For now, Smriti Mandhana’s focus appears to be firmly on cricket. Her WPL triumph is being seen by many as more than just a sporting achievement. For her supporters and family, it represents strength, resilience and the ability to move forward with dignity after a deeply personal setback.
