On Sunday, the West Indian women’s team played a match against the South African team in Leicester in the ongoing WWC2017 and they were bowled out for a meagre score of 48. Just to inform, this was the sixth lowest score ever scored in the ICC Women’s World Cup. Chedean Nation was the highest scorer for West Indies with 26 runs but five batswomen of the team could score only in single digit while five were not even able to open their score. The WI team lost their first 5 wickets at the score of 16 only and they could bat only for 25 overs, getting all out for 48.

South African bowlers Marizanne Kapp and Shabnim Ismail made WI batswomen’s life miserable but star of the match was Dane van Niekerk who took 4 wickets and didn’t give even a single run. Dane is also the captain of the team and her figures for the match were 3.2-3-0-4. With this performance, Dane becomes the only bowler in the history of cricket to take 4 wickets without giving a single run in an international match.

The South African team won the match without losing any wicket as the openers Laura Wolvaardt and Lizelle Lee comfortable chased the target in 6.2 overs.

Dane’s achievement was praised by many including the South African men’s cricket team captain AB de Villiers. He tweeted, “What a fantastic performance from the @ProteasWomen !!! Congrats @danevn81 and the girls! Looking good.”

If we talk about the men’s cricket, Richie Benaud from Australia took 3 wickets in 3.4 overs without giving any run in a 1959 test match played against India in New Delhi.

Kudos to Dane van Niekerk!
