Sri Lankan Batsman Dickwella Did An Extended Drama On The Field To Draw The Match

I’ve said it multiple times that Cricket is one of the most entertaining game without any doubt. But sometimes the entertainment multiplies itself when the drama adds up.

The latest drama to happen on the cricket field was today as India and Sri Lanka were heading towards the end of the 1st Test match in Kolkata.

Virat Kohli scored a stunning century which was his 18th of Test and 50th overall. His lovely performance took the team to a total of 352/8 before he declared the innings. The target for Sri Lanka was 231 which they had to chase in the last two sessions.

As the match looked getting out of their grip, Sri Lankan batsman Niroshan Dickwella allegedly decided to waste the time so that it gets declared as a draw.

It all started as both the Sri Lankan batsmen Dickwella and Dinesh Chandimal had an overextended conversation on the field which irritated Ashwin and Virat Kohli. In fact, the umpire Nigel Llong had to intervene after Kohli had a chat with the umpires.

Then after the 19th over, it started again as the batsman Dickwella was seen delaying the strike. This led to a heated conversation between the two as the objective of Dickwella was clear. The things turned uglier and the umpire Llong had to call Kohli to mediate.

But Dickwella was really adamant as he again tried to waste the time before the over of Ravindra Jadeja. This time again Kohli had to point it out.
