Research suggests that out of every 10 women, 1 suffers from menstrual pain. Women who tend to suffer every month know how uncomfortable and crippling it is. Since women are openly discussing these issues related to menstruation, they are definitely going to get paid off. New regulations have been introduced by the Chinese province of Anhui, Vagabomb, which entitles women employees who suffer from menstrual cramps and severe pain to a monthly off.
However, for being eligible to this, a medical certificate has to be produced. However, this is the not the 1st province for introducing the regulation. The leaves are already provided in Hubei and Shanxi provinces and also in territories of Taiwan, South Korea, Indonesia and Japan. In western countries as well, women are openly discussing the issue and drawing attention to the problem.
However, this is not as simple as it might be sounding. Many women working in male-dominated offices don’t opt for this.
A woman’s right advocate, Li Sipan told CNN that paid period leave is a right that every woman suffering from acute pain should have. She further added that “Those who would potentially benefit most from the regulation are female migrant workers behind assembly lines and sweeping the streets, who make up for the majority of such lines of work… But for migrant workers, a doctor’s notice would be too much of a hassle to get.”
Opting for these leaves is every woman’s personal decision. However, since this regulation offers convenience to large number of women, every country must introduce it.
Since this initiative has been taken by many countries, India shouldn’t be left behind, as it has a huge female workforce.
