The Pakistani cricket team is facing wrath of the Pakistani cricket fans as their performance in the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2024 was pretty disappointing. The fans were hoping to see their team win the T20 World Cup but Babar Azam-led team wasn’t even able to enter the Super Eight stage and got knocked out from the group stage.
What hurt the Pakistanis more was the fact that Pakistan lost the match against the debutant USA and then it couldn’t even score 120 runs against India for winning the match.
While the Pakistani cricketers performed badly in all the segments whether it was batting, bowling or fielding, the captaincy of Babar Azam was also slammed a lot along with his batting.
Babar Azam had quit the captaincy after dismal performance of Pakistan in the ODI World Cup 2023 but he was reinstated just before the mega event and as per the reports, the relations between the top players of the team are not good.
Babar Azam is touted as King by some of his fans but after the T20 World Cup 2024, many former players have started calling him fake or fraud king who has got the title on social media networks and he doesn’t have the capability to win a match single-handedly for his team just like Virat Kohli. The former Indian cricketer Parthiv Patel is also currently making headlines because he called Babar Azam a selfish player.
Recently, the former Indian cricketer Parthiv Patel appeared in Cyrus Broacha’s podcast, “Cyrus Says” along with actress Saiyami Kher and they talked on many issues related to cricket including the current Pakistan team. Parthiv showed no hesitation in saying that Pakistan is a very weak team now, there was a time when the Pakistani team had legends but now they have players like Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan. He said, “They have a very weak team now. Look at the team they used to have —Inzamam ul Haq, Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhtar, Waqar Younis, Yousuf Yohana, Saqlain Mushtaq and now Babar Azam, Rizwan.”
While talking about the Pakistani cricketer Fakhar Zaman, Parthiv said that he should have opened the innings, he called Babar Azam a selfish player because Fakhar Zaman was demoted to number 4 because Babar wanted to open. Parthiv said, “Captain wanted to open, so he had to come down. If the captain is a selfish player, there’s no chance.”
Saiyami asked Parthiv whether he is being too harsh on Babar and in response, Parthiv said, “But I’ve said all of this. There’s nothing new in it. Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, everyone says that.”

Earlier, the former Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik has stated that Pakistan’s best batter Babar Azam won’t be able to make it to the top 3-4 T20I teams of the world.
It will be interesting to see whether the Pakistan Cricket Board will choose to continue with Babar Azam as skipper or they will appoint any other player as captain. What do you think?
