The relations between India and Pakistan have strained over the years and it has affected sports as well in a big manner. India-Pakistan rivalry is one of the most famous rivalries in the world and their cricket matches are no less than a war for cricket fans of both the countries.
Both the nations have not played any bilateral series for a long time now and they face each other only in the mutli-nation events but nowadays the cricket boards of the two countries are embroiled in a scuffle which is related to the venue of the Asia Cup 2023. Though the hosting rights of the tournament are with Pakistan but the BCCI secretary Jay Shah has made it clear that the Indian team won’t travel to Pakistan so the venue of the tournament should be changed.
This statement has not gone well with the Pakistan Cricket Board and many former Pakistani cricketers including the then PCB chief Ramiz Raja threatened to pull out from the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 which is going to be held in India. As of now, Najam Sethi is heading the PCB and he called for an emergency meeting of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) for discussing the matter.
The meeting of ACC took place on 4th Feb 2023 in Bahrain but no result came on this matter and now this issue will be discussed in the meeting which will take place in March. As per the reports, Najam Sethi has conveyed to Jay Shah that if India won’t play the Asia Cup in Pakistan, his country may think of not playing in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.
Recently, the former Pakistani cricketer Javed Miandad was asked to comment on this issue in a public event and he made a derogatory statement towards India after which the Indian Twitterati slammed him harshly. Javed Miandad says that if India doesn’t want to come to play cricket in Pakistan, then they go to hell and Pakistan doesn’t need India to survive in the cricket world.
He further asks why the Indians are not coming to play here, adding that they are running because if they come and lose against Pakistan, it will be a problem for them. Javed Miandad further says that Indian public has never been able to see their team getting defeated by the Pakistani team. He adds that even in his playing days, India avoided playing against Pakistan because the crowd over there is very nasty and they burn down houses if the Indian team loses to other teams.
He goes on to say that the governing agency which is International Cricket Council (ICC) in this case, should take an action against such country and should ban them so that other nations will learn a lesson. According to Javed Miandad, cricket is a sport and they should understand that if you don’t play well, you lose but they are going into other things.
The Indian Twitterati didn’t like what 60 years old former Pakistani cricketer said and they reminded him of poor condition of his country and also made fun of him. Check out some selected reactions:
