US Doctor Applied For Passport Renewal, Ended Up Losing His Citizenship, Here’s What Happened

Quite weird and unexpected

There was a time when the USA was called the land of dreams as there were huge opportunities and many people from various parts of the world used to migrate over there in order to do something big in their lives.

Getting citizenship of the USA is a dream for many but a strange incident has come to light as a 62 years old doctor Siavash Sobhani who is from Northern Virginia lost his citizenship when he applied for the renewal of his passport. He got the rude shock of his life when he was informed that he was granted the citizenship by mistake despite the fact that he was born there, he studied there and he practiced as a doctor for around 30 years.

Dr. Siavash Sobhani who celebrated his 62nd birthday this month told a news daily that he is a doctor who has lived all his life in the US, voted for the Presidents, paid his taxes and also served his community. He added that during the COVID-19 pandemic, he kept himself and his family at risk by treating patients so it is really shocking when you are told after 61 years that there was a mistake and you are no longer a citizen of this country.

The correspondence that Dr. Siavash Sobhani  received from the State Department Officials states that his father was an Iranian diplomat because of which he shouldn’t have got the citizenship at the time of birth. The letter has made it clear that the kids born to parents who enjoy diplomatic immunity don’t become the US citizens automatically.

However, this is not the first time that Dr. Siavash Sobhani has filed for renewal of passport, he has renewed it many times in the past as well.

Dr. Siavash applied for renewal in February 2023 as the passport was about to expire in June and he was planning a trip in July but things took an unexpected turn. Now, he has applied for the citizenship and has paid $40,000 (roughly Rs 34 lakh) as the legal fees. He is hopeful that he will soon be called for interview by the State Department and he will once again be a US citizen. As per the reports, the doctor is thinking of taking retirement and travel with his wife but presently he is not able to visit his sick father-in-law who is in Lebanon.

This was quite weird, what do you say?
