The star Indian cricketer Virat Kohli unintentionally found himself at the center of a social media storm after fans noticed he had liked a few bold photos of actor-model Avneet Kaur on Instagram.
The images, posted on April 30, showed Avneet dressed in a striking green top and mini skirt and while fans responded with an outpouring of admiration, it was Virat Kohli’s unexpected engagement with the post that truly ignited conversation.
The Internet erupted into meme-making and teasing comments, with many jokingly asking what prompted the cricketer’s activity. Reactions ranged from playful jabs like “Kohli saab, what is this behaviour?” to quips referencing his son with comments such as, “Akaay beta, papa ko phone do!”
To clear the air, Virat Kohli addressed the buzz through his Instagram stories, explaining that the interaction was unintentional. He stated that while he was clearing his feed, the Instagram algorithm may have mistakenly registered some likes, clarifying there was no intention behind them and requesting that people refrain from making baseless assumptions. Despite his straightforward explanation, the Internet didn’t let the matter slide, turning his clarification into fresh meme fodder.
Amid the viral chaos, singer Rahul Vaidya entered the fray, taking a cheeky swipe at Virat Kohli in a video, mimicking his explanation by saying that from now on, if photos appear liked, it must be a glitch and not done by him. He sarcastically advised women not to treat such interactions as publicity opportunities, because, as he put it, “it is Instagram’s mistake, okay?”
The light-hearted dig didn’t sit well with Virat Kohli, who reportedly blocked Rahul Vaidya on Instagram. The singer followed up with another video, mocking the situation further by suggesting that the block must have also been Instagram’s doing, not Virat Kohli’s, with the app’s algorithm allegedly taking matters into its own hands.

This guy is so smart at marketing that he knows where to hit the nail! 🤣 He knows kisne kya kaise karwaya, he knows yeh aisa bolega yeh bhi news banega 🤣 I don’t like his PR overdrive & his annoying cringe videos, but he is carefree & has guts! Got to admit! (Rahul Vaidya in frame)

What began as a playful poke soon escalated, as Rahul Vaidya’s posts triggered backlash from Virat Kohli’s fans. In response, he shared an Instagram story where he called out the abuse directed at his wife and sister, saying they had nothing to do with the situation. He criticised the fanbase harshly, branding Virat Kohli supporters as “jokers” and referred to them as “2 kaudi ke jokers,” expressing frustration over the level of vitriol. He later intensified the remark by stating Virat Kohli’s fans were even bigger “jokers” than Virat Kohli himself.
While the entire episode stemmed from what Virat Kohli insists was a technical glitch, the resulting reactions, trolling and personal attacks escalated the issue far beyond a few errant likes. The Internet, it seems, isn’t ready to let go just yet.
