In response, he expressed his desire to win another World Cup, a statement that was met with enthusiastic applause from the audience. India’s last ODI World Cup triumph dates back to 2011 under the leadership of MS Dhoni. Since then, the team has come agonizingly close, falling short in the semi-finals of 2015 and 2019 before finishing as runners-up in 2023. Virat Kohli, who has been a cornerstone of the Indian batting lineup for over a decade, is determined to end this drought before he eventually steps away from the international stage.

Having recently retired from T20Is after India’s victorious T20 World Cup campaign, questions regarding Virat Kohli’s long-term future have continued to circulate, particularly after a below-par series in Australia where he struggled for form. However, he quickly silenced critics with a stellar performance in the Champions Trophy, where he played a crucial role, including a century against Pakistan and a match-winning knock in the semi-final against Australia.

Reflecting on his struggles during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, Virat Kohli admitted to feeling frustrated by his repeated dismissals outside the off-stump. Despite the disappointment, he acknowledged the importance of moving forward, recognising that another tour of Australia may not be in his plans in the years to come.

Currently, Virat Kohli has started the IPL 2025 season on a strong note with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, already making an impact with a half-century against Kolkata Knight Riders. As he continues to prove his mettle in domestic and international cricket, his ambition to lead India to another World Cup victory remains as strong as ever.
