Virat Kohli believes that a relaxed dressing room can make a big difference, especially when India are playing under intense pressure. After India’s first ODI against the West Indies, Kohli spoke about the importance of senior players and leaders keeping the atmosphere positive.
Virat Kohli was speaking with India’s ODI and Test captain Shubman Gill after both produced match-winning performances in the opening ODI. Shubman Gill, who grew up idolising Virat Kohli, said he was thrilled to be part of the occasion when Kohli completed 15,000 ODI runs. He also praised Kohli’s current form, saying his confidence and calm approach are visible both on and off the field.
Shubman Gill explained that Virat Kohli appears to be enjoying his batting more than ever, and that the ease and confidence he shows away from the field also carry over into his performances during matches. Virat Kohli, meanwhile, spoke about his long-standing relationship with Shubman Gill. He said they have shared a relaxed and fun-filled bond since Shubman Gill entered the Indian team but the latter is now in a leadership role.
Virat Kohli pointed out that he has spent many years in leadership positions and is now one of the senior players in the squad. According to him, when senior cricketers and team leaders are smiling, laughing and keeping things relaxed, younger players also feel that everything is under control.

He added that this approach becomes even more important during high-pressure matches. When senior players remain relaxed, it helps the rest of the team avoid unnecessary tension and understand that they can stay calm while still remaining professional on the field.
Virat Kohli’s message was simple: pressure may be unavoidable in big matches but the right atmosphere can help players handle it better.
