Problem of drugs in Chandigarh has taken the worse form as vendors find out new ways to sell dope stuffed in paranthas as well as in other edible items. Rehriwallahs who sell stuffs outside colleges and schools use the new trick to boost their business since food infested with drug makes people addict and they visit their stalls frequently. Drugs such as opium, ganja as well as pain-killers are kneaded in dough and sold when addicts buy sandwiches and paranthas.
In the course of a PIL hearing which had been filed for increasing threat of drugs in Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana, bench of justices PB Bajanthri and Surya Kant brought to light this issue, HT reported.
NGOs in the city have been commanded for collecting details and presenting reports by HC. Not only this, setting up a call centre to make individuals aware of unlawful actions as well as permit them for sharing details in this connection is also directed.
Additionally, curriculum for colleges and schools will be prepared by the expert panel and there would be explanation of drugs’ harmful effects. Prior to the next academic session, this would be added in addition to guidelines for preventing drug abuse in prospectus and diaries so that parents also go through them.
