This is the game that shattered all the record in no time. Records are being made, new stats are being scaled and the X axis of the graphs are just stretching along the 7th sky. A week early if someone had told me about a game that would go viral by breaking such records, I would have considered him INSANE. Because practically this was not possible. But records are meant to be broken.
Let me just show you some of the stats.
The stats shown above were taken from SimilarWeb ( An Analytics Firm).
This is the same app that began as an April Fools joke and now it is a worldwide phenomenon, achieving more than 15 million downloads in just 1 weeks time.
According to stats, ‘Pokemon GO’ in its 1 week life cycle has been downloaded more times than the Dating App ‘TINDER’ in its 4 years of life cycle. Such is the popularity that this app is receiving.
According to the report produced by BBC News Network, it is estimated that the app is making $1.6 million (Rs 11 Crore) daily in terms of revenue with a potential run rate of $1 billion per year (Rs 6700 Crore). A lot of game developers and software experts around the world were shocked to see results as the mobile version of the 1990s game managed to became an instant overnight hit following its launch last Thursday, adding more than $10 billion (Rs 67,000 Crore) to the company’s market value. Currently Nintendo’s market value has now reached £25.7 billion
So now that I have told you about how much they are earning, let me allow you to explain WHO ARE EARNING OUT OF IT ! !
The game was developed by the collaboration of companies like Niantic, the Pokémon Company and Nintendo.
Although ‘Nintendo’ is not directly involved in the development of ‘Pokémon Go’ but it still owns a third of the ‘Pokémon Company’ which in turn holds the Pokémon franchise.
It is interesting to note that ‘Nintendo’ is also a part owner of ‘Niantic’.
Google and Apple, on the other hand, collect a 30% of in-app purchases. This means that every time a player buys Pokéballs, the companies make money.
“It is unclear exactly what their economic interest is in the game, but we presume that out of every 100 units earned at the app store, 30 would go to Apple, 30 to Niantic, 30 to Pokémon and 10 to Nintendo,” David Gibson at Macquarie Research said.
It is also exciting to note that Nintendo Company’s share market value has increased up to a whooping 86% in a weeks time.
Many business owners are already finding un-official ways to tap in to this market and make money. Reddit users are offering rides to the gamers for a fee while they collect Pokemon. Multiple Uber Cab drivers have taken to social media to offer a similar service.
Restaurants, cafes and bars are celebrating the fact that they are on the app as a ‘PokeStop’, ( a real-world location where the app grants players necessities including Poke Balls).
Although this game has not been launched in India, but still many people have managed to get their hands on the MOD version of the game. Good luck with that buddy, that game might be Trojan Backdoor Malware.
