History was made on Sunday night as Sunil Narine reached a major milestone in the IPL and Shah Rukh Khan made sure the moment didn’t go unnoticed.
During Kolkata Knight Riders’ comfortable seven-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad, Sunil Narine became only the third bowler in the IPL history to reach 200 wickets. Soon after the match, KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan shared a heartfelt message on social media, celebrating the spinner’s long journey with the team.
“Sunil, my friend… here’s to 15 seasons… over 200 wickets… 3 titles and many more with the @KKRiders franchise around the globe!!! You are a magician and we love you like our own family. Big hug for today and always… Be healthy and keep smiling!” he wrote.

Sunil Narine achieved the milestone with figures of 2/31, including the important wicket of Ishan Kishan. With this, he also became the first player in the IPL history to take 200 wickets for a single franchise. Additionally, he is the first overseas bowler to join this elite list alongside Yuzvendra Chahal and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Earlier, SRH had started strongly after being put in to bat. Travis Head smashed 61 off just 28 balls, while Ishan Kishan added 42, helping the team reach 71/1 in the Powerplay. However, KKR’s bowlers fought back well, especially through spin.
Varun Chakravarthy led the charge with 3/36, while Sunil Narine controlled the middle overs as SRH eventually collapsed to 165 all out. Contributions also came from Kartik Tyagi, Cameron Green, Vaibhav Arora and Anukul Roy.
Chasing 166, KKR stayed in control throughout. Angkrish Raghuvanshi scored a steady 59, while captain Ajinkya Rahane added 43. Finn Allen gave a quick start with 29 off 13 balls.
Since joining KKR in 2012, Sunil Narine has been a key part of their title wins in 2012, 2014 and 2024, along with earning top awards like the MVP twice and the Purple Cap in 2012.
