The Indian cricket team suffered a humiliating defeat in the semi-final match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 against England. The match was played today at Adelaide Oval and with this loss, India’s campaign in the World Cup came to an end. Rohit Sharma led Indian squad was the favourites to win the trophy and it played really well in the Super 12 stage as it won 4 out of 5 matches but today the English team dominated the Indian side in all the segments.

Team India was put to bat first by England after winning the toss but the Indian openers failed in giving a good start to the team and ultimately it was Virat Kohli’s useful knock of 50 runs (40 balls, 4 fours & 1 six) and Hardik Pandya’s fiery knock of 63 runs (33 balls, 4 fours & 5 sixes) which helped India in putting up a total of 168/6 on the score board.

However, the target of 169 was not much for the England openers – Jos Buttler (80 runs not out, 49 balls, 9 fours & 3 sixes) and Alex Hales (86 runs not out, 47 balls, 4 fours & 7 sixes) as they ensured that their team goes home as the winner with 10 wickets in hand. Now England will face Pakistan in the finals of the tournament which will be played on 13th Nov 2022 at Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is also getting slammed after India’s defeat because he failed in making an impact with the bat throughout the tournament; he scored 116 runs in six innings which included only one fifty. Few decisions taken by Rohit Sharma as a skipper were also criticized by some former Indian players including Ajay Jadeja who reviewed Rohit’s tenure as a T20 captain till date.

While speaking on a show, Ajay Jadeja says that he will say one thing which may hurt Rohit Sharma if he listens to it. He states that if a skipper has to make a team, he has to be with the team for the whole year. He questions as to how many series Rohit Sharma has played this year and even the coach is not travelling on the tour to New Zealand.

In the words of Jadeja,

“Main ek baat bolunga jo chubhegi agar Rohit Sharma sunenge, agar team banaani hai kisi captain ko, toh usko saare saal team ke saath rehna padta hai. Poore saal me Rohit Sharma kitne daure pe rahe? Ye hindsight me nahi keh raha, ye main pehle bhi bola hu. Aapne team bani hai, aur aap saath nahi rehte. Coach bhi New Zealand nahi jaa rahe.”

Ajay Jadeja further says that there should be only one old person (leader) in the house (team); if there would be seven, then the problems will arise. Here Ajay Jadeja was referring to the fact that the Indian team had seven skippers in the past one year or so.

In his words, “Ghar ka ek hi buzurg hona chahiye, saat buzurg honge toh bhi dikkat hai.”
