There is no Indian who remains unaware about this great personality “Osho”. Nether less he was an Indian mystic, guru and spiritual leader who was always in criticism since he lived life as a leader and become immensely famous after his Death. Osho was widely accepted in his home country, India after death. Here we mention you few facts about the Inspirational leader, Osho.
1. Osho was born as Chandra Mohan Jain on 11 December 1931 and was also known as Acharya Rajneesh from the 1960s onwards, as Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh during the 1970s and 1980s, and latter was known as Osho.
2. Osho encouraged open attitude towards sexuality, due to which he was criticized by Indian press and he earned a name ‘Sex guru’.
3. He is the eldest of eleven children of a cloth merchant and his wife in Kuchwada, a small Indian village in the Raisen district, Madhya Pradesh.
4. Since childhood he was kept with his grandparents and when he was seven his grandfather died so he was taken to Gadarwara to live with his parents.
5. He secured a teaching post at Raipur Sanskrit College; and was soon told to transfer from the college by the vice chancellor, because he considered him a danger to ‘students’ morality, character and religion.
6. After facing various criticisms by 1981, Rajneesh’s ashram hosted 30,000 visitors per year, and majority of audiences were from European and American.
7. He spoke on major spiritual traditions which including Jainism, Hinduism, Hassidism, Tantrism, Taoism, Christianity and Buddhism and one of favorite topic as to speak on Guru Granth Sahib and Upanishads.
8. Osho called himself as “the rich man’s guru”, and added that the poverty was not a genuine spiritual value.
9. In Oregon, Rajneesh drove a different Rolls-Royce each day and it is reported that his followers wanted him to buy 365 Rolls Royce i.e one Royce for one day.
10. During a session, it was noted that Osho follows Ten Commandments in his life which are mentioned below.
1. Never obey anyone’s command unless it is coming from within you.
2. There is no God other than life itself.
3. Truth is within you, do not search for it elsewhere.
4. Love is prayer.
5. To become nothingness is the door to truth. Nothingness itself is the means, the goal and attainment.
6. Life is now and here.
7. Live wakefully.
8. Do not swim but float.
9. Die each moment so that you can be new each moment.
10. Do not search. That which is, Stop and see.
11. In 1991 an influential Indian newspaper counted Osho equal to Gautama Buddha and Mahatma Gandhi among the people who had most changed India’s destiny through their preaching.
12. Till now, over 650 books are credited to Osho and maximum among they are available in 55 different languages.
13. Osho’s ashram in Pune has now become Osho International Meditation Resort which is one of India’s main tourist attractions.
14. Anthony Store wrote that Osho was “personally extremely impressive and many who visited him for the first time felt that their most intimate feelings were instantly understood, that they were accepted and unequivocally welcomed rather than judged.
15. The first documentary on Rajneesh, Bhagwan, was made in 1978 by American filmmaker Robert Hillman.
16. Osho died at 5 p.m. on 19 January 1990 at age 58, due to heart failure.
