We reported you how driverless trains are in test mode and are all set to run in Delhi. Now it seems, even Haryana is not behind.

Considering the rising pollution in the city of Gurgaon, the state government is planning to start environment-friendly electric buses soon. Haryana Urban Local Bodies Minister Kavita Jain, along with the members of a delegation, visited the plant of JBM Solaris Electric Vehicles Limited in Poland on Tuesday and said that they will have 75-100 electric buses running in the first phase.

Talking about its benefits, she said each electric bus would help save about 4.25 lakh litres of diesel and reduce carbon emissions by 1,150 tonnes in 10 years of operation.

This would help improve the environment and provide trustworthy public transport. They are also noise and pollution-free and do not require fossil fuels to run, she added.

The development is expected to reduce traffic congestion and also provide better public transport system to an average of 50,000 people every day.

Gurgaon Metropolitan Development Authority, Municipal Corporation, Gurgaon, and Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) would bear 50 per cent, 40 per cent and 10 per cent of the cost of the project respectively, she said.

She also said that a plant has already been established by JBM group for manufacturing CNG buses in Ballabhgarh near Faridabad. It will soon begin manufacturing electric buses under the Make in India programme.
