Malaysian users who tried to access the Google’s Malaysian website few hours ago were redirected to a different page. Google Malaysia confirmed that their services were disrupted and users were getting redirection to the hackers webpage. Google asked Malaysian users to use the country-neutral website (www.google.com) instead of the default country-specific home page (www.google.com.my) until the problem is resolved.
The web page to which users were redirected read, “Google Malaysia Hacked by Tiger-Mate. #Bangladeshi Hacker”. The motive and the origin of the attack is not yet known, although it is similar to the DNS hijacking case that happened in February 2015 that disrupted the access to Google’s Vietnam home page. It appears that Google Malaysian home page is now back online but Google has not yet confirmed if the issue has been sorted out.
“We’re aware that some users are having trouble connecting to google.com.my, or are being directed to a different website. We’ve reached out to the organization responsible for managing this domain name and hope to have the issue resolved shortly”, said a spokesperson.
