MS Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings clinched victory in a nail-biting encounter against Faf du Plessis led Royal Challengers Bangalore in the match which was played yesterday at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. The 24th match of the IPL will go down as one of the highest scoring matches in the history of the tournament as total 444 runs were scored in both the innings and the host RCB fell short by just 8 runs.
The toss was won by Faf du Plessis and he chose to put CSK to bat after winning the toss. The decision proved correct as the opener and in-form batter Ruturaj Gaikwad got out for just 3 runs. However, Devon Conway (83 runs, 45 balls, 6 fours & 6 sixes) and Ajinkya Rahane (37 runs, 20 balls, 3 fours & 2 sixes) not only stabilized the innings but also scored at a quick rate as they put up a partnership of 74 runs in just 43 balls. After Ajinkya Rahane got out, Shivam Dube came on the crease and ripped apart the RCB bowling. He played a blistering knock of 52 runs (27 balls, 2 fours & 5 sixes) and helped his team in scoring a huge total of 226/6 in their stipulated 20 overs.
RCB started poorly as their star batter Virat Kohli got out for just 6 runs but skipper Faf du Plessis played a captain’s knock of 62 runs (33 balls, 5 fours & 4 sixes) and he was joined by Glenn Maxwell who tore apart the CSK bowling as he went on to score 76 runs in just 36 balls and his innings included 3 fours & 8 sixes. The Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik also played a quick knock of 28 runs (14 balls, 3 fours & 1 six) but still RCB fell short by 8 runs and CSK won its 5th match of the tournament.
